The 1990 computer-animated short movie "The Mind's Eye" made a tremendous impression on me. Following that, I knew I just had to get into computer graphics, 3-D modeling, and animation. That little obsession had to wait until my second semester in college, when my then-roommate - who just-so-happened to be an 'integrative arts' major - showed me a couple of 3-D modeling programs with which he was familiar. I was hooked, then.

The first software was Bryce 2, and I must have cranked out a dozen landscapes in the first week of using it. Okay, sure, it's almost a glorified clip-art program if you only use the pre-set textures and don't edit the objects and skies from the what the program creates, but it wasn't long before I was getting really creative with it, and learning some neat tricks in modeling. These skills I carried over to other software; now I tend to work mostly in Strata Studio Pro for modeling complex objects. I fall back to Bryce for modeling still images, but Strata has become my primary animating program.

I might like to someday work in the computer animation industry, perhaps in movie or computer games, special effects, or fully-animated films. I know I've got other software to learn to be competitive there, but I think I've a decent 3-D graphics accelerator hooked up in my mind's eye and quick-learning capability to bring to it.
